Categories & Characteristics of Citadel Paints:

• Base - Base paints contain more pigment than others, meaning they provide bold layers. They are ideal for use as a foundation for other paints.
• Layer - Layer paints have less pigment than base paints and flow more easily off the brush. They are intended to be applied over base paints to brighten them, add lighter shades, or highlight details on the model.
• Shade - Shade paints are formulated to flow into the recesses of models, leaving very little pigment on the raised areas. They have a notably more liquid consistency. They create shadows on miniatures, adding contrast and depth, making the whole model appear more dynamic.
• Dry - Dry paints contain less medium than other paints, making them perfect for dry brushing techniques. These paints have a more gel-like consistency.
• Contrast - Due to their unique formulation, Contrast paints are highly versatile. They can be applied over white (or generally light) base coats to create a base layer, shadows, and sometimes highlight details on the model all at once. They can also be used for glazing or toning other paints.
• Technical - Technical paints allow you to add various special effects to your models, such as cracked earth, slimy marshes, corrosion, or spectral glow. Each offers an interesting way to add final detail to your miniatures.
• Spray - Spray paints allow you to cover a miniature with a single, smooth layer of paint. They provide a base coat for applying base or contrast paints. It's common practice to first spray a plastic surface with a coat of spray paint, as all subsequent layers adhere better to this "undercoat."
